Talking Points: The Secret Thing 02-07-2018

  • Our faith must be based on God’s word and not our experiences in life.
  • Remember we understand experiences by the scriptures not the other way around.
  • Deuteronomy 29:29 tells us that there are things that only God knows and ther are things that God will reveal.
  • Like Peter we are to follow Jesus and not get our eyes and attention on someone else.
  • Dying sick and dying old are 2 different things.
  • Our bodies are aging due to the fall of Adam.
  • 2 Corinthians 4:16 tells us that our body is aging and our inward man is being renewed day by day.
  • Abraham lived to be 175 years old. He died of old age not sickness and disease. He simply breathed his last and died.
  • Genesis 1:14 tells us that time is calculated the same from creation to the end of the world.
  • Genesis 48:1 the word sick also means to be weak and feeble.
  • Some translations use the words weak and failing.
  • Genesis 47:28 tells us that Jacob lived to 147 years of age.
  • Jacob had become weak with age and he died from old age.
  • Notice the phrase “breathed his last”
  • Like his father Abraham he breathed his last in old age.
  • Dying of sickness and disease is not “that it may be well with you” and it certainly is not living long on the earth.
  • Like Apostle Paul said in Acts 20:24 we can live out our life and finish our course with joy.
  • We cannot finish our race with sickness and disease and we certainly won’t do it with joy.
  • People can die of old age instead of sickness and disease.
  • We can live out our life and finish our race and then in a good old age breathe our last like those of old.

Talking Points: Doctors, Medicine & Healing 01-31-2018

  • When it comes to God and doctors it is not one or the other so you don’t have to throw away your medicine or quit wearing your glasses and so forth. God can and does heal people while wearing glasses and taking medicine.
  • People who are facing diseases like cancer should not stop the treatments. God can heal you while you are being treated. It is advised for anyone to keep seeing their doctor and to keep taking their medicine and treatments as prescribed.
  • When it comes to people who have become sick and died we do not know their heart.
  • We don’t know everything that goes on in a person’s heart any more than other people know what is going on in ours.
  • Only you and God know your heart.
  • No matter what happens to others we must still walk by faith and believe God's Word for ourselves.
  • We are sad when a family member or friend has died prematurely but we can take comfort knowing they are with the Lord and as Paul said “It is far better”.
  • Just because we don’t understand what happened we can still rejoice with them.
  • Experience explains scriptures or scriptures explain experiences. Our faith must be based on God’s word and not our experiences in life.

Talking Points Sovereignty, Submission and Healing Part 2 Wednesday 01-24-2018

  • Deuteronomy 30:19 tells us that God has given us a choice.
  • God in His sovereignty does not choose for us but has given the choice to us.
  • 2 Timothy 3:16 and John 15:3 tell us that God uses His word to teach, humble and correct us.
  • James 4:10 and 1 Peter 5:6 tell us that we are to humble ourselves.
  • James 4:6 and 1 Peter 5:5 tell us that God gives grace to the humble not sickness and disease.
  • James 1:17 tells us that God’s gifts are good and perfect.
  • Romans 2:4 tells us that God uses goodness to bring repentance in our lives.
  • The word salvation comes from the Greek word sozo that means saved, healed, delivered, set free, made well, made whole, preserved, protected and cause to prosper.
  • According to Psalm 103:1-3 God wants us forgiven and healed.
  • We must realize that healing is God’s idea and that anything and everything that helps bring that about is on God’s healing team.
  • If God has a problem with doctors then why did God use Luke a physician to write the gospel of Luke?
  • In Proverbs 17:22 medicine is called good.
  • According to 1 Samuel 16:7 and 1 Corinthians 2:11 only God and ourselves know our own heart.
  • We may be sad that a family member or friend has died prematurely but we can take comfort knowing they are with the Lord and as Paul said here “It is far better”.
  • We have either known someone or heard of someone who knew about healing and had faith for healing, but was not healed.
  • The answer simply is we don’t know unless God shows us.
  • No matter what happens on this earth and in our lives it does not change the word of God.
  • Our faith must be based on God’s word and not our experiences in life.
  • Deuteronomy 29:29 tells us that there are things that God knows and that He will reveal them to us and there are things He will not reveal to us.
  • In John 21:20-23 we see Jesus telling Peter to get his eyes off of John and to follow Jesus.
  • No matter what happens with or to others we need to keep our eyes and focus on Jesus and we need to keep following Jesus.

Talking Points: Sovereignty; Submission & Healing

  • Some people say “If it be thy will” thinking they are being submissive to the sovereignty of God.
  • Deuteronomy 30:19 is including sickness and disease and health and healing.
  • You will notice throughout the Word of God that, in most matters, God has given us the opportunity to choose.
  • God in His sovereignty does not choose for us.
  • God has made it our choice and we have the responsibility for making the choice ourselves
  • When it comes to the sovereignty of God and healing we see from God’s word that in His sovereignty He has provided healing.
  • God is sovereign! The Bible tells us so and common sense tells us so.
  • The devil has and will seduce people into believing sovereignty is something that is not, so that he can steal, kill, and to destroy just as Jesus said in John 10:10
  • Another belief in this exaggerated sovereignty message is that God will use sickness and disease to teach, humble and punish us.
  • The point is that God is good, He does good and He gives good.
  • When a parent harms, when I say harm I mean to injure or afflict in such a way that causes broken bones, poor health, mental, physical and spiritual, sickness and disease to their own child we call it child abuse even if the parent’s motive is to teach them a lesson or to show them how to be humble or to punish.
  • Such people need help themselves.
  • Just because a person can father a child or a mother give birth to a child doesn’t mean they are fit to be a parent.
  • So if we as decent average people won’t treat our children this way why do we have the belief in the church world that God will.
  • God is love.
  • Love does no harm.
  • If God is love and He is and love does no harm then God cannot use sickness and disease to teach, humble or punish us.
  • God does not chooses people to show others how to "humbly" accept sickness and disease as His will.
  • Because people do not know God’s word they have been robbed of their health and some have even been robbed of their very lives.
  • Satan is the one who struck Job with boils not God.
  • God does not use sickness or disease at anytime or in any way.
  • People can get close to God without getting sick. We can decide to "draw near to God" any time.
  • There is no healthy relationship between a child and a parent who uses such tactics to teach, humble or punish.
  • Parents who control and manipulate their child’s behavior through such perverse actions do not have a better or stronger relationship.
  • God does not control or manipulate us
  • God uses His word to teach, correct and humble us.
  • The Bible is clear that we are to humble ourselves.
  • God does not give sickness and disease to the humble, He gives grace to the humble.
  • According to James 1:17 God gives good and perfect gifts.
  • Romans 2:4 tells us that God uses goodness to bring us to repentance.
  • When you study the subject of the goodness of God you will see that not one time is sickness and disease included in the goodness of God. You will find health and healing are part of the goodness of God.

Sovereignty & Healing Handout

Noah Webster’s Dictionary 1828

SOVEREIGNadjective suv'eran. [We retain this babarous orthography from the Norman sovereign The true spelling would be suveran from the Latin supernes, superus.]

1. Supreme in power; possessing supreme dominion; as a sovereign ruler of the universe.

2. Supreme; superior to all others; chief. God is the sovereign good of all who love and obey him.

3. Supremely efficacious; superior to all others; predominant; effectual; as a sovereign remedy.

4. Supreme; pertaining to the first magistrate of a nation; as sovereignauthority.

SOVEREIGNnoun suv'eran.

1. A supreme lord or ruler; one who possesses the highest authority without control. Some earthly princes, kings and emperors are sovereigns in their dominions.

2. A supreme magistrate; a king.

3. A gold coin of England, value 20s or $4.44

Wycliffe’s 1382

Genesis 1:26 Make we man to oure ymage and liknesse, and be he souereyn to the fischis of the see, and to the volatilis of heuene, and to vnresonable beestis of erthe, and to ech creature, and to ech `crepynge beest, which is moued in erthe.

Wycliffe’s modernized

Amos 5:16 Therefore the Lord God of hosts, having lordship (And so the Lord God of hosts, who ruleth, or who is sovereign), saith these things, Wailing shall be in all streets, and in all things that be withoutforth it shall be said, Woe! Woe! and they shall call an earth-tiller to mourning, and them that know how to wail, to wailing.

Wycliffe’s 1382 original text

Amos 5:16 Therfor the Lord God of oostis, hauynge lordschipe, seith these thingis, Weilyng schal be in alle stretis, and in alle thingis that ben withoutforth it schal be seid, Wo! wo! and thei schulen clepe an erthe tilier to mourenyng, and hem that kunnen weile, to weilyng.

Talking Points: Wednesday 01-10-2018

  • Extremes and exaggerations
  • For every truth in the bible there are those who have taken them to an extreme.
  • When taken to extremes or exaggerated, they are distorted and the distortions are not true.
  • The extreme sovereignty message is the doctrine of sovereignty exaggerated into something it really is not.
  • This exaggeration says that we are to accept and appreciate anything and everything that comes into our lives, whether it is good or bad, because it has already gone through God.
  • Just because something is written in the bible doesn’t mean that it is so because the sovereignty of God may determine other wise.
  • Sovereignty means supreme
  • The word sovereign is an English word that came to us through Latin and it is not Hebrew or Greek therefore it is not in the original text of the Bible.
  • The first time we see the word sovereign in the English bible is in John Wycliffe’s translation in 1382
  • You will find that the word sovereign and its use concerning God did not appear in the bible until the modern translations.
  • The belief in the sovereignty of God has existed for many years but it was not part of the English translation of the Bible until the modern translation.
  • The doctrine of sovereignty has grown over the years into a common belief that God is sovereign and He can do whatever He wants and nothing happens unless He wants it to happen.
  • The sovereignty of God is best understood by what the bible teaches us.
  • Numbers 23:19 tells us that God does not lie and He keeps His word.
  • Titus 1:2 tells us that God cannot lie.
  • It is impossible for God to lie even as the sovereign God that He is.
  • That means if God said it then it must be true.
  • It also means that if God said He will do something then He will and if He said He will not do something then He won’t do it otherwise He would be a liar.
  • Malachi 3:6 God does not change
  • Hebrews 13:8 God is always the same
  • God has made His will known in the scriptures and He will not change it.
  • Sovereignty is qualified and understood by the scriptures
  • The question will always come back to what does the Bible say?
  • Is God sovereign? Yes
  • Does God in His sovereignty over ride what He has written in His word? No
  • In God’s sovereignty does he over ride peoples will? The answer is no because it is against His character to do so.
  • Does God in His sovereignty over ride or violate a person’s will in order to accomplish His will? The answer is no.
  • The Bible is clear that Jesus came for every person and that salvation is for everyone.
  • God is sovereign, He is almighty, He is supreme but He is not a liar and He is not a covenant breaker.
  • God has already stated His will in His Word, He will not violate Himself by performing some so called "sovereign act” that is contrary to His written Word.

Healing Handout

Purpose: To provide a biblically based knowledge of what the scriptures say concerning Healing and for that truth to be personally applied by each person to their life. To know and live healing.

Method: Thorough study of the Bible using the Old Testament and New Testament, the Hebrew and Greek text of the Bible and the use of lexicons and dictionaries.

Bible references will be the main tool used but from time to time it will be beneficial to consult the original languages of Hebrew and Greek.

Format: Each Wednesday beginning January 3rd, 2018 till sometime in the spring of 2018. A specific end date will be set later in the series. The evening will begin promptly at 7:00 pm with prayer followed by a couple of songs to praise and worship the Lord then a time of teaching for 30 to 40 minutes followed by a time of questions and answers. After the question and answer time an offering will be received and then the service will be dismissed.

Suggestions: Bring a Bible, there is something about having your own bible, bringing it to church and reading it as the lesson is taught that helps us to see, know, understand and believe what we hear.

Talking Points Wednesday 01-03-2018

  • This is a journey.
  • Every journey has a beginning and an end. A starting point and a finishing point. We begin this journey right where we are and not where we want to be. We will get to where we want to be as we follow God’s word.
  • This journey will take time, and commitment but the journey itself and the destination are worth far more than the time, effort and commitment that is asked of us.
  • We must remember that we have an adversary who wants to keep us in fear and in ignorance. Who will use these and others to intimidate, distract and detour us from this journey.
  • “Your mind does not stay renewed any more than your hair stays combed.”
  • Familiarity can be distracting and misleading.
  • The pursuit of truth helps us to overcome familiarity.
  • There are always obstacles to every journey.
  • This journey is more than a doctrine it is a living experience.
  • The devil will try to steal the word.
  • Separate the wheat from the chaff.
